The 2009 Dickens Christmas Fair has this special rate for those who come during the last 3 hours. Admission is half off. Anyway, I did enjoy myself. They had Rabbit's Foot cherry cider this year. Very nice. I got myself a wand and holseter fromWhirlwood. It was the "Green Lantern" from the SixPenny line in "Holiday Edition" colors. Which means the wand shaft is colored purple while the handle remains green. I also got a Pewtinium "drinking horn" from Balena Bay.

So the last Pathfinder (aka "Dungeons and Gragons 3.6") game of 2009 by our group has been played. Our group is in the city of Katapesh. A sort of ancient Arabia/Persia analog. I got the title of my entry from fantasy web comic Dominic Deegan. The author is about to run his own game of Pathfinder with some other creative artisan friends of his. I've been a bit of a fan of 8-bit Theater for years. I should check out Atomic Robo, if only to support the creator. It tickles me that they are also fans of the game that has allowed me to continue playing D&D the way I like it.

The Victorian Christmas Card has come to life again. But only for THREE WEEKENDS remaining. I can only go to the Saturday ones due to work circumstances this month. Who wants to go? The Charles Dickens Xmas Fair is also a great place to get Wizarding equipment for a LARP, con, or Harry Potter event. Such as wands or cloaks.

Stuffing myself with stuffing in the company of loved ones come home and then shopping at a local K-Mart or Target makes me feel thankful and prosperous. I finally got myself some Transformers movie sequel toys. I also got a jar of my beloved cheese balls, which have vanished from my city. I would have liked to have bought a Tofurky to experiment wih.
I meant to share this last week when the "New Moon" movie debuted in theaters. Some folks here already know I lol about the trope-gasm that is the Twilight Saga. It's a bit of a heavy net-read, so perhaps this strip from the Head Trip webcomic can put it in a nutshell. I liked it. The fact that the writer/artist is a female also makes the amusement about her take on Stephanie Myer's sparkle-vamp books more enjoyable.
Edward Cullen was stated on the Atomic Think Tank. He's Power Level 9 under the Mutants and Masterminds 2nd Edition superhero game system. The only reason information was gathered to stat out the character was so that other people with their stated out super hero characters could test their mettle against him under game rules. This page of the Think Tank has a Power Level 10 costumed vigilante (a sort of Batman analogue) named "Ghost" fighting Power Level 9 sparkling vampire Edward Cullen and winning. There are other fights with Edward going up against Warhammer foes, Dhampirs, and a growing roster of home brew superheroes.

ssj_mato , antdevamp , and I went to see DETHKLOK in concert last night. FUKIN' METAL!!! As I hoped, they played theDuncan Hills Coffee Jingle I like so much but cannot get on disc so easily. We got entertained on the stage wall screen by Face Bones, a masct I guess. Before Dethklok came on stage, there was a short cartoon with Eddie, the protagonist of Brutal Legend acting as a roadie for Dethklok and killing a monster for them. (He hates Murderface because William can't sing Danzig for sh*t.)

Some anons rather would leave them out of the protests as the orgs are the real target. In other November related news, not many people did much for the5th of November. Alan Moore must be dissapointed. After all, the Guy Fawkes masks practically are the signature image of the movement against the cult of $cientology.

      The previous issue of Wired magazine had an article about the war on scientology titled "The Assclown Offensive". It also mentions Operation Slickpubes. (I never heard of it before.)
     The planned zombie-apocalypse for San Jose on October 10 did not go fully as planned. Most protestors stuck to the Guy Fawkes masks. The Los Angeles zombies however, were very organized in their lobbying for brains.
     October 17th in San Francisco is documented here. "Someone" called police, claiming that the protestors were smoking pot.

Halloween Things That Seem "Off" THis Year So Far

Last year's SF Halloween Festival sounded good. Wish I went to it. This link is the only indicator of one going on this year. Sounds promising but the lack of a working website link makes me worried. I would like to go this year.
I haven't found any Monster Cereals this year at the local markets that would normally carry them. That is disturbing. My Frakenberry box is almost gone. The Halloween Oreos that were on shelves a week ago are also gone already. Why? The month of October is only half over.

Brave and Bold: Street Level Paragon that Works

J. Michael Straczynski takes over DC Comics current run of The Brave and the Bold starting with issue 27. I got my copy about a week ago. It features a team up between Batman and Dial H for Hero. I find this issue noteworthy because I like what Straczynski does with comic book superhero writing. It debuts a new hero called The Star who is a "street level" Paragon superhero; a form of Superman-lite. In terms of Mutants and Masterminds game stats, The Star would be power level 5 or 6. Or you can think of him as original Action Comics Superman from the early 1930's, but with flight.

I guess Equality Now will just ignore my letter.

Speaking of Anonymous, the month of October brings about a Halloweenish theme by the Anonymous was on the "church" of scientology. Zombie Raid will be the proposed theme for October 10th. (At least in San Jose.) Zombie costumers were swarming cinema theaters earlier this week when "Zombieland" came out. San Francisco Co$ orgs have come under anon protest and zombie swarms before.

     Paranormal Activity is in town for 3 nights only. Metreon midnight screenings. I think I'll shoot for the one tonight afterAnime FX.  Way to kick off October with a pee-your-pants ghost movie.

UPDATE: Missed my chance. Tickets sold out right in front of me while still in line. 10 minutes made one heck of a difference. DEMAND it in order to maybe brign about more screenings.
      Speaking of missed chances involving spooky October stuff, I am miffed by how books from Cemetery Dance Press keep on going out of print. I'm hard pressed to start the Orangefield series of Halloween books.

      Anime Destiny by the Cal Animage Berkeley Alpha chapter is coming up next Saturday on October 10th. Who else is going?

      I should really think about doing a local vampire walk or ghost tour this year. Maybe the one in Chinatown? Or walking the Haunted Haight? I could even visit theIsle of Spirits at night.

      UC Berkeley is having another Anime Destiny this October 10th on a Saturday. It's been 4 years since the last one. It's about time they had another one. Looks like it starts at 10 am and goes till 8pm.

     Next year in late January 2010 isA.O.D. in Japantown this time. It's nice that an anime con is back in San Francisco's Japantown. I should make it for Saturday, when more stuff happens. They also have a MySpace and Facebook with moar updates.

     I saw the Saturday Night Live season premier last night with host Megan Fox.   Can be seen nutshelled here. I personally have to insist on watching the Megan's Roomate SNL Digital Short.  Somehow as a Transformers fan, this totally out-of-left-field short is just..so...,

Meet Tyrese Gibson at the Local Comic Shop?!

The Comic Outpost website as of this posting hasn't been updated on the event. But word at the shop and on it's TWITTER page is that actor/music star/writer Tyrese Gibson is supposed to show up this Wednesday to sign autographs and promote his new comic book: MAYHEM. The comic is about a violent crime fighting vigilante who looks like Tyrese under the mask. Lots of blood and bullets.
I will be stuck at work at that time. Maybe I'll go see Shane Acker's 9 later that night? I've seen the original short film online already. See how our world ends.

September 19: Operation Donkey Punch and Halloween on Saturday

      September 19th has been dubbed Operation Donkey Punch by the Anonymous. The idea is to "expose" David Miscavige for what he is. There is some talk of a "side raid" at Burning Man. Dress up in a business suit, Guy Fawkes mask and just show up.
     There is also a note on how Halloween falls on a Saturday this year. The potential to do something HUGE is there. After all, everyone is in costume on that day. The month of October will see shops selling Guy Fawkes masks everywhere.
