Stuffing myself with stuffing in the company of loved ones come home and then shopping at a local K-Mart or Target makes me feel thankful and prosperous. I finally got myself some Transformers movie sequel toys. I also got a jar of my beloved cheese balls, which have vanished from my city. I would have liked to have bought a Tofurky to experiment wih.
I meant to share this last week when the "New Moon" movie debuted in theaters. Some folks here already know I lol about the trope-gasm that is the Twilight Saga. It's a bit of a heavy net-read, so perhaps this strip from the Head Trip webcomic can put it in a nutshell. I liked it. The fact that the writer/artist is a female also makes the amusement about her take on Stephanie Myer's sparkle-vamp books more enjoyable.
Edward Cullen was stated on the Atomic Think Tank. He's Power Level 9 under the Mutants and Masterminds 2nd Edition superhero game system. The only reason information was gathered to stat out the character was so that other people with their stated out super hero characters could test their mettle against him under game rules. This page of the Think Tank has a Power Level 10 costumed vigilante (a sort of Batman analogue) named "Ghost" fighting Power Level 9 sparkling vampire Edward Cullen and winning. There are other fights with Edward going up against Warhammer foes, Dhampirs, and a growing roster of home brew superheroes.

[info]ssj_mato , [info]antdevamp , and I went to see DETHKLOK in concert last night. FUKIN' METAL!!! As I hoped, they played theDuncan Hills Coffee Jingle I like so much but cannot get on disc so easily. We got entertained on the stage wall screen by Face Bones, a masct I guess. Before Dethklok came on stage, there was a short cartoon with Eddie, the protagonist of Brutal Legend acting as a roadie for Dethklok and killing a monster for them. (He hates Murderface because William can't sing Danzig for sh*t.)

     J. Michael Straczynski takes over DC Comics current run of The Brave and the Bold starting with issue 27.  I got my copy about a week ago.  It features a team up between Batman and Dial H for Hero.  I find this issue noteworthy because I like what Straczynski does with comic book superhero writing.  It debuts a new hero called The Star who is a "street level" Paragon superhero; a form of Superman-lite.  In terms of Mutants and Masterminds game stats, The Star would be power level 5 or 6.  Or you can think of him as original Action Comics Superman from the early 1930's, but with flight.

This weekend sees the return of California Extreme, a free retro gaming arcade show being held in Santa Clara this time.  I was hoping it would be the same location in San Jose as last year.  It'd be easier to get to and I could grab some mufaleta and mudbugs at Poor House Bistro.  Is anyone with a car (hint) planning to go this Saturday?
I do not know if there are any protest against the local scilon org in San Francisco by the local anons.  Thsi weekend will be several protests in the state as usual however.  Anons in San Jose plan to wear green to show solidarity with thepeoples uprising in Iran.   Hmm, I just got a new Green Lantern Corps shirt yesterday.  I should wear it on Saturday to show my solidarity.  I've got several as I am a fan of the Green Lantern Corps
Back on topic about the grassroots revolution in Iran, it irks me so much when the authorities keep throwing around the term "counterrevolutionary".  The theocratic establishment must be so full of shit theat they can't smell their own bullshit that's got so many people riled up to begin with.  When you've had a nation in your iron grip for three decades, there's nothing revolutionary about you.

The news seems so much like the world of the actual "Dark Knight" movie, I think we could do with some mirth.

At last!  Favored webcomic Shadowgirls finally hooked up with Mutants and MastermindsSuperlink!   The first download for Charon McKay's stats and shadow powers are here.  From May 4 through May 8, 2009, there will be a new download posting.  I've been waiting for this to come out on my fave superhero RPG system!  Who'd be up fo a Power Level 7 game of horror?

Green Ronin is also doing Geroge R. R. Martin'sA Song of Ice and Fire RPG coming out this year.  This is NOT the 2005 "Game of Thrones" d20 3.5/OGL RPG from the now dead Guardians of Order. (So sad to see that company go.)

I've gotta fight a Deep Crow for D&D 3.5 orPathfinder.  Or if I'm a DM, find a way to sic one on a party.  I've gotten to thinking about Deep Crows from discovering and reading Crowscare , a horror film given web comic form.  Makes crows and corvids scary in a way I've never thought about in a long time if ever.  I still also consider Shadowgirls another good "Halloween all year" comic.
Online is a short horror movie called Blood Red Earth, which is a prequel to a DVD release called The Burrowers.  I find it interesting since the whole short is filmed in Lakota.  It kind of makes me want to check out the DVD feature length.
Pumpkinrot is a website set up by some hardcore Halloweeners who practically celebrate Halloween all year.  I should pay more attention to these guys.  Now I have another site to visit year round besides Devils Tramping Ground.    I still also have to look into ordering more books from Cemetery Dance.  Some of the best books I've read about Halloween come from there.

Shark Robot has been making shirts that I buy at cons each year for a couple of years now.  I intend this year to be no more different except maybe an increase in volume if I can help it.  I can add Split Reason to the list.  Never before have I seen so many of these geek shirts in one spot since ThinkGeek.  But Split Reason allows one to submit art for votes and costructive critisism.  Popular enough drafts will get made into actual shirts to be sold.  JINX isn't so bad either I guess.

Shadowrun 4e continues.  (Now with Stuffer Shack stuff to print!)  After chopping off the arm of the Spithander that tried to shoot me, I shove him out the second story window to certain death.  We kill 3 of them and the other 4 flee.  6 captives and 3 dead wharf gang members are turned over to the Pueblo Council for a bounty total of 14,400 Nuyen split 4 ways.  We decide to turn down the mysterious job offer to kill 15 "gang" members because 20,000 NuYen seems like peanuts to our elf for wetwork.
While looking for a dive bar to drink in, we notice that one of the P.I.T.O. drones that follow us on missions for filming is out of place and our elf decides to destory it with his sword.  Turns out a grenade was placed inside it.  Who sent that drone?  Anyway, we only take stun damage and don't even need the medkit.
While drinking, our rat shaman gets a notice from her house alarm.  There is a break in.  She astral projects home to find a male magic user and a female cyborg in there.  Her alarm systems also notified Lone Star Private Security, which has a contract to act as the cops for that area.  Ultimately, she decides against summoning a spirit to kill the intruders for legal reasons, and decides ordering the spirit to trace the couple would be futile because the mage might detect it.  What is going on?

I still can't believe Zack Snyder actually used the term as an actual group name.  Also missing: Heinz Beans.  They had Rorschach eating some kind of American brand like Bush's or some Pork and Beans.  The Sweet Chariot Chewing Sugar cubes were also absent.  I found the supervillain's grand plot to be more realistic in the film though.  I'd do it that way if I were trying to push that agenda.

Tonight was the first part of our Shadowrun 4th Edition game.  Our Russian Mob hacker stopped showing up because his player wanted to switch to playing an elf blade adept.  The rest of the group still has my human sword adept, a weretiger gun adept, and a rat shaman.
A "Mr. Johnson" of our, a dwarf named "Mr. Lorne" introduced the new player character to us.  We were to meet him in a bar and measure his worth.  We also got an annonymous job offer offering 20,000 NuYen to knock off about 12 to 15 gang members in 3 days.  It seems that the "gang" was the same group of college drop outs we were paid by Mr. Lorne to evict from another building.  Maybe it was Mr. Lorne again, but why offer it to us annonymously?
Anyway, we have an elf with killing skills to test out and a need to define our time as money.  Good thing the Pueblo Council is offering bounties on a local pirate gang called the Spithanders.  800 NuYen for a dead one, and 2,000 for a live captive turned in.  They attacked our group on one of our early water salvage jobs before so it sounds like easy money.  We roll into their marked turf and find six hanging out.  We'll take most of them alive.
Our rat shaman casts a stun ball on the group to soften them up.  Our elf hits finishes one with a punch and I use one of my Jedi-knockoff powers to keep another one unconcious.  The surrounding houses suddendly reveal about 7 gun barrels all around us.  We decide to take them in dead.  I jump up through a second story window and slice off a mook's arm.  The gun adept runs up the wall and into another window, gunning down the unfortunate occupant.  The elf runs in on the ground floor and beelines up to join in the killing while our shaman casts a shield on herself while drawing gunfire.  We will pick up next session.

I enjoyed WonderCon like I do each year.  I just didn't have enough time to do everything.  I could have brought more money and more bags to carry.  I also wish I did not get a cough on Sunday from the con crowd.    [info]talinthas , sorry about the Capcom press kit.  But I got you a nice elvish sporran since I'm told you have no objection to owning leather.  I think some of the venue shrunk from last year, hence the locking out of the Watchmen panel.  The DC line was super nuts this year.  I did not get my usual grab of free swag since I kept on getting shut out.  I also didn't get a Watchmen movie button.  Dang.
Good points are still plentiful.  The Stunt People sold me a new shirt and will have a new SF movie screening this month.  One of those Fridays is booked for sure.  I also got an autographed CD, pic, and comic ashcan from Gigi Edgley.  Bonus: Two handshakes while she answers questions about Chiana's accent on Farscape.
Saturday night was fun.  Went out to The Cheiftan pub for a bite before watching the costume contest for the first time in a couple years.  The greatest Transformers movie Bumblebee costume I've ever seen though bowed out though.

In other news: "Fight the rain" with the katana umbrella!  I must have it along with a bag of holding

Tonight was the final part of a two-session game of Shadowrun 4th Ed.  Our group was now a Rat Shaman, a 'Vory (Russian Mob) Hacker, a Gun Adept, and myself as a Jedi-knockoff Sword Adept.  Our "Mr. Johnson" was a cybered up troll.  His final offer was 5,000 NuYen up front and 13,000 upon completion for us to hit a warehouse.  We were to get inside, get some data onto a jump drive he gave us, and give it to him.  There should only be 5 guards.  Easy money, right?  Shadowrunners should never think something is just "easy money", even if it is.
We find the target in a warehouse district.  It's next to a magically warded one.  There are only five rent-a-cops like the troll said.  (Almost all cops are privatized in 2070.)  They're armed only with pistols.  Turns out they're from a subsidiary of Knight Errant Private Security.  Knight Errant itself is like the equivalent of Blackwater.  If K.E. are elite knights, these five mooks are the squires.  It's not even worth killing these mooks.  (We're not paid to kill these guys.) We just have to snatch the data.  Two gel pistol rounds, one magic stun ball spell, and a taser shot later, the guards are taken down.  However, their armor was linked to some bio-comp alarm system.
Our 'vory hacker proceeds to do the data grab.  Something interesting then happens.  While the data is extracted, the drive given to us uploads a VERY nasty databomb into the system.  Our client is someone not to mess with.  As we ready to make ready to leave, a good perception roll lets us spot a shadowy figure on the roof of the next warehouse over looking at us.  We decide to ignore the possible threat and leave as soon as possible.  We got the goods were paid to get like good professionals.  Distractions that are not direct threats should be ignored.  The shadow figure does nothing.
      It gets more interesting... )
