I've gotta fight a Deep Crow for D&D 3.5 or Pathfinder. Or if I'm a DM, find a way to sic one on a party. I've gotten to thinking about Deep Crows from discovering and reading Crowscare , a horror film given web comic form. Makes crows and corvids scary in a way I've never thought about in a long time if ever. I still also consider Shadowgirls another good "Halloween all year" comic. Online is a short horror movie called Blood Red Earth, which is a prequel to a DVD release called The Burrowers. I find it interesting since the whole short is filmed in Lakota. It kind of makes me want to check out the DVD feature length. Pumpkinrot is a website set up by some hardcore Halloweeners who practically celebrate Halloween all year. I should pay more attention to these guys. Now I have another site to visit year round besides Devils Tramping Ground. I still also have to look into ordering more books from Cemetery Dance. Some of the best books I've read about Halloween come from there. Tags: nerdtown Current Music: blowing wind sound fx from pumpkin rot

I enjoyed WonderCon like I do each year. I just didn't have enough time to do everything. I could have brought more money and more bags to carry. I also wish I did not get a cough on Sunday from the con crowd. talinthas , sorry about the Capcom press kit. But I got you a nice elvish sporran since I'm told you have no objection to owning leather. I think some of the venue shrunk from last year, hence the locking out of the Watchmen panel. The DC line was super nuts this year. I did not get my usual grab of free swag since I kept on getting shut out. I also didn't get a Watchmen movie button. Dang. Good points are still plentiful. The Stunt People sold me a new shirt and will have a new SF movie screening this month. One of those Fridays is booked for sure. I also got an autographed CD, pic, and comic ashcan from Gigi Edgley. Bonus: Two handshakes while she answers questions about Chiana's accent on Farscape. Saturday night was fun. Went out to The Cheiftan pub for a bite before watching the costume contest for the first time in a couple years. The greatest Transformers movie Bumblebee costume I've ever seen though bowed out though. In other news: "Fight the rain" with the katana umbrella! I must have it along with a bag of holding! Tonight was the final part of a two-session game of Shadowrun 4th Ed. Our group was now a Rat Shaman, a 'Vory (Russian Mob) Hacker, a Gun Adept, and myself as a Jedi-knockoff Sword Adept. Our "Mr. Johnson" was a cybered up troll. His final offer was 5,000 NuYen up front and 13,000 upon completion for us to hit a warehouse. We were to get inside, get some data onto a jump drive he gave us, and give it to him. There should only be 5 guards. Easy money, right? Shadowrunners should never think something is just "easy money", even if it is. We find the target in a warehouse district. It's next to a magically warded one. There are only five rent-a-cops like the troll said. (Almost all cops are privatized in 2070.) They're armed only with pistols. Turns out they're from a subsidiary of Knight Errant Private Security. Knight Errant itself is like the equivalent of Blackwater. If K.E. are elite knights, these five mooks are the squires. It's not even worth killing these mooks. (We're not paid to kill these guys.) We just have to snatch the data. Two gel pistol rounds, one magic stun ball spell, and a taser shot later, the guards are taken down. However, their armor was linked to some bio-comp alarm system. Our 'vory hacker proceeds to do the data grab. Something interesting then happens. While the data is extracted, the drive given to us uploads a VERY nasty databomb into the system. Our client is someone not to mess with. As we ready to make ready to leave, a good perception roll lets us spot a shadowy figure on the roof of the next warehouse over looking at us. We decide to ignore the possible threat and leave as soon as possible. We got the goods were paid to get like good professionals. Distractions that are not direct threats should be ignored. The shadow figure does nothing. ( It gets more interesting... )Tags: nerdtown Current Music: The sound of the "sweet buck-buck".

Spent all day at work on Valentines day. Arrived at AOD a little into Yukie Dong's panel/mini-concert aout half past eleven. I consider her to be one of the highlights of that con day. Same with the actor improv panel. Ellyn Stern's "Women in Anime" panel needs a little more research/input. Like how Joss Whedon portrays female protagonists in his works. Part of her thesis was that anime has a long record of showing women being only strong by putting them into a masculine mold ie Major Kusanagi from "Ghost in the Shell". Not exactly "girly". The major is in some sense, a "man with boobs" most of the time. A woman just emulating a man. Why can't women be empowered without testosterone injections? Start of an interesting thesis. I'm not sure she knows much about works like "Azumanga Daioh" which is described by many as a "celebration of femininity without sexuality". Sounds like an accurate descrip' to me. The single screening room has more left to be desired. The dealer room was tiny but I got something that I wanted. Some guy was selling medieval leather goods. I got myself a leather pouch good for coins or dice. I also have a leather belt pouch with a locking flap. Now I'm even closer to looking like a dorky wizard what with my wand and now a spell component pouch. He never heard of DunDraCon, which I expected him to show up at. He'll consider next year if schedules mesh. He's booked solid for cons every weekend. He'll turn up again at WonderCon. Guess I'll decide if I want the leafy "elf" leather belt pouch. I'm told by a pal at the con that SacAnime had a bigger dealer room, though he had more fun here. Rain never let up today. Good thing I had a wind resistant umbrella, though I wonder where my larger one went. I grabbed a bite at Tommy's Joynt across the street. Their beef burgundy seems to be lacking something this time. Should've saved my cash. Tags: nerdtown
