Near my house on Taravel Street in San Francisco is a Safeway supermarket.  But the Mediterrainian farmers market on the corner near that Safeway is what I am talking about. (Parkside Farmer's Market, 555 Taravel Street.)  Rahat Lokum aka "Turkish Delight" or just Lokoum to other parts of Europe such as Romania.  Made famous to most Americans by ways of "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe" by C.S. Lewis.  The devilsh sweet that the evil Empress Jadis uses to get Edmund to bring his brother and sisters into her evil clutches.   Most Americans also only know the imitators known as Aplets and Cotlets.
Usually I only knew where to find the stuff at a British Specialty Shop near one of my workplaces, and only during the months of November and December.  It was Sultan brand in rose and lemom flavor.  The store close to my house has Hacizade and Athena brand.  Both of these brands are a bit more diverse than Sultan brand.  More than that, they claim to sell it year round.  The Brit shop ran out of thier supply during the relase of the first Narnia movie.  The local store shelves are much more heavily stocked.  I got the plain, pistachio, mix box, and mix nuts boxes already. Each box is cheaper than what the Sultan boxes or Aplets and Cotlets are as well.
Shall I send some Turkish Delight to Trav Dawg in the next round of care boxes?  Or is where he's posted mean that he is closer to the source than we are?  What say former Iraqi vets out there?
